Mark Thomson of StudioThomson
StudioThomson was founded by Mark Thomson and his brother, Chris Thomson. His presentation today displayed his projects in which he art directed and/or designed for his clientele.
Mark Thomson used to work for a design company for a few years before he started up StudioThomson with his brother. He felt that those few years of experience before starting his own company were extremely important as it gave him crucial insight into the design.
As I watched Thomson explain many of his various projects during his presentation, I found that he works amazingly with the brief/collection he's given by his clients. He always brings an interesting new aspect to the final product that plays with ideas in a thought-provoking way. He uses simple but effective imagery that communicates really well.
When working with design and identity, his projects involving embossing/debossing particularly caught my eye. I've always been fascinated with brail, and this tactile way of communication between people. I'd definitely like to explore further into this in the future.
A tip Thomson gave us was that preparation and management of time is very important - don’t spend too long on a shot, yet don’t rush. To succeed in having good imagery, you must make sure you are prepared.
I've included some images of StudioThomson's work that I like. Check out their website for more (studiothomson.com).
